Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I have read about some other Texas cities offering incentives for energy efficient products like solar panels. Does the City of Dallas offer incentives for energy efficient upgrades or installs?
A: Unlike some Texas cities such as Austin or San Antonio who own their own coal-fired power plants, Dallas does not produce electricity by burning fossil fuels. As a result, we are unable to tap into funds aimed to reduce the associated air-emissions from those pollution sources and pass those on to citizens and businesses here.
However, the City is continually exploring new funding sources to try and help bring energy efficiency as well as water conservation measures and awareness to the citizens. When we find them, we will use Green Dallas to announce those programs.
You can also look to Oncor’s Take a Load Off Program: http://www.takealoadofftexas.com/. These programs help residential consumers, business owners and government and educational facilities help jump-start their energy efficiency efforts.
Q: I am interested in finding out more about electric retailers and options for renewable power and associated costs. Do you know where I can find out more information?
A: Yes, visit the Official Electric Choice Web site of the Public Utility Commission of Texas web site. This site allows you to compare services and rates of electric providers in your area.
Q: How do choose an electricity plan that includes renewable energy?
A: Many utility plans include renewable energy in varying amounts, i.e. 5%, 10%, 20%, 100%. Despite what you may think, plans with 100% renewable energy do not always cost more than plans with zero percent renewable energy. Visit www.PowerToChoose.org to compare electricity plans in your area.
