City of Dallas commends Earth Day efforts of its Dallas Sustainable Skylines partners

Did you know? Earth Day was founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970, and has been observed in the U.S. on April 22nd every year, going global in 1990.

Here at home, despite the rain and thunder, the City of Dallas, the EPA, Downtown Dallas, and Keep Dallas Beautiful celebrated Earth Day on April 17th with the annual EarthFest. Not even Mother Nature could keep people from enjoying the festivities and supporting the environmental groups exhibiting at EarthFest.

Partners of the Dallas Sustainable Skylines Initiative (DSSI) celebrate Earth Day as well. Green Mountain Energy, one of DSSI’s longest partners, participated in Earth Fest (Apr 17th), Oak Cliff’s Earth Day celebration (Apr 19th), and fellow DSSI partner JC Penney’s Earth Day (Apr 22nd).

Rebuilding Together Greater Dallas also hosted its annual signature event on April 18th, which is followed by another event on April 25th. Rebuilding Together will be working on 16 homes located throughout the Southern Sector of Dallas, incorporating green rehab practices and energy efficiency/ weatherization services.

Students at the da Vinci School celebrated Earth Day by going to the opening day of Disney’s new film ‘EARTH.’ They will also enjoy an environmental fair on April 27th. City of Dallas environmental outreach staff will on hand at the fair to supporting the school and share information with the children about the environment and its importance.

The City of Dallas commends its partners for their efforts. These are just a few activities local businesses have engaged in to help improve our environment.

Help us build a greener city and make every day Earth Day.
